November 07, 2016 – Capital Foodservice was able to participate in this years fundraising event for the "Friends of We Care National Bowling Challenge" on Thursday, November 3. The goal was for our organization to raise $3500 and all teams collectively raised well over our goal amount for a grand total of $4155. Representing our Capital Foodservice Bowling team was Maurice Maillet, Chrystal Gauthier, Mike McMackin and Andre Pellerin. For the past 2 years Olymel Atlantic has been bowling in the We Care National Bowling Challenge in Halifax. Friends of We Care are a national Foodservice and Hospitality supported charity which raises money to send kids with disabilities to accessible summer camps. Every year, the charity hosts 15 events from coast to coast, from golf, to bowling, to ski days, and galas, bringing in over $1 million dollars annually to help fund camp experiences. They support all 14 national Easter Seals camps, which are fully accessible and specialized to meet the needs of the kids who attend. Their goal is to provide accessible summer camp experiences so that kids can focus on their ABILITIES and not their disabilities. From high ropes courses to white water rafting, kid’s can do it all through specialized equipment and dedicated staff. Camp stays also provide a short respite for parents as well as an opportunity for them to see their children strive in ways they never thought possible.
This year, Moncton is joining 6 other cities across Canada (Halifax, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Kelowna) to participate in the Friends of We Care National Bowling Challenge! After participating in Halifax’s bowling event last year, I wanted to do more for kids with disabilities in New Brunswick by hosting our very own event in Moncton. While the national Friends of We Care office assists us in organizing the event, they depend on local volunteer committees to help sign up teams and confirm donations of food and prizing in order to make it successful.
Through its national event fundraising, Friends of We Care contributed over $44,975 to New Brunswick in 2015 to allow kids in our province to go to camp. Any money raised during the new Moncton Bowling Challenge will directly support the NB Easter Seals camp so that all money raised in New Brunswick, stays in New Brunswick!
